Embark on a journey to the depths of the ocean with the Perry Diver Lockout Research Submarine, a marvel of underwater technology. Built by Perry Oceanographics, Inc., in Riviera Beach, FL, this submersible was first introduced in 1973 as a diver lock-out sub, primarily operating in the North Sea oil fields. Over the years, it has seen several modifications, including a rebuild in 1995 and a rename to its current identity, showcasing its versatility and adaptability to various underwater missions.

The Perry Diver Lockout Research Submarine is constructed with a cylindrical steel pressure hull, featuring a hemispherical bow and a conical stern, designed for optimal performance and safety underwater. Its power source relies on lead-acid batteries housed in pressure-resistant pods, providing a reliable and sustainable energy supply for deep-sea expeditions.

Equipped with a comprehensive maneuvering control system, including a ten horsepower fixed reversible stern propeller for main propulsion and additional thrusters for auxiliary propulsion, the submarine ensures precise navigation through the aquatic realms. The dynamic maneuvering is further enhanced by dive planes and a rudder, allowing for smooth operation under various conditions.

For scientists and explorers alike, the submarine’s life support system is a testament to its endurance, offering four oxygen flasks and an ample supply of mixed gas for extended lockout diving sessions. The interior boasts a plastic bow dome and multiple viewports for panoramic underwater views, alongside sophisticated manipulators for interaction with the marine environment.
